Waves Swim Team
The Woodside Waves Youth Swim Team has been a Woodside tradition for the past 30 years. Its purpose is to provide our swimmers with a safe, educational and enjoyable environment to develop water safety, stroke technique and diving instruction.
Dedicated coaches and supportive parents help to ensure each child’s success in the 6-week season. Daily practices, weekly meets, social events and competitive and non-competitive swimming experiences provide structure and programming for our young swimmers each season.
The MOKAN Swim League made the very difficult decision to cancel their 2020 competitive summer swim season. The health and safety of our athletes, coaches, family members, facility employees, and community members must remain a priority in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are all heartbroken over this decision. Please know that multiple scenarios have been analyzed, but as a league, we know this decision is in the best interest of all parties involved. We look forward to a fantastic 2021 competitive summer swim season.
The team practices according to age, Monday – Friday. Swim team participants must be between the ages of 5 – 18. Swimmers compete within their age group and skill level in dual meets once a week against other clubs in the MoKan Swim League. Woodside Waves swim team is open to Woodside members & Westwood residents only.
THE SWIM TEAM PRACTICE SCHEDULE
BLUE TEAM | AGES 13 – 18 | 7:00AM – 8:30AM
RED TEAM | AGES 9 –12 | 8:15AM – 9:15AM
YELLOW TEAM | AGES 8 and UNDER | 9:15AM – 10:15AM
GREEN TEAM | PRE-COMPET 6 and UNDER | 10:15AM – 11:00AM
To ensure the safety of our pre-compet swimmers we have introduced a new rule to this age group: your child must be able to swim the length of the 25 yard pool without stopping or needing assistance within the first week of practice to be able to continue in this group. If for some reason your child is not able to complete this task by the end of the first week you will need to enroll your child in swim lessons and sign up again next season. This is for the safety of all our swimmers. This will be evaluated on Friday, June 8. You will be refunded your money if your child cannot swim the length of the pool by this date.
Meet nights are Tuesday nights for 10 and under and Thursday nights for 11 and up. Swimmers generally arrive for the meets around 5PM – meets are held at home and away. The pre-compet swimmers only have one meet during the season – usually late June. In addition to competition, swimmers participate in many social activities: a Season Kick-off Pool Party, Oceans of Fun Day, Team Pictures, Bring your Parent to Practice Day, Start & Turn Clinic, Cheer Night, Movie Night at the pool and an End of Season Awards Pool Party.
The pre-compet meet is scheduled for Monday, June 29 and the Swim Championships are scheduled for Tuesday, July 14 and Thursday, July 16.
