WAVES SWIM TEAM
The Woodside Waves Youth Swim Team has been a Woodside tradition for the past 30 years. Its purpose is to provide our swimmers with a safe, educational and enjoyable environment to develop water safety, stroke technique and diving instruction.
Dedicated coaches and supportive parents help to ensure each child’s success in the 6-week season. Daily practices, weekly meets, social events and competitive and non-competitive swimming experiences provide structure and programming for our young swimmers each season.
The Waves are back for the competitive 2021 summer swim season!
Registration opens on Monday, April 5th at 10am. Registration must be completed through the Swimtopia website. Those who have not already signed up on Swimtopia will need to create an account at the time of registration on Monday. This cannot be done prior to Monday at 10AM as it is a part of the registration process, so set your reminders for 10AM on the dot and be ready with all required information and your method of payment. After you create your account, click on the green registration button on the right hand side. If you are unsure of which squad to register for, select your best guess and it can be rearranged at a later date.
The team practices according to age, Monday – Friday. Swim team participants must be between the ages of 7 – 18. Swimmers compete within their age group and skill level in dual meets once a week against other clubs in the MoKan Swim League. Woodside Waves swim team is open to Woodside members and Westwood residents only.

To ensure the safety of our swimmers ages 7 and 8: your child must be able to swim the length of the 25 yard pool without stopping or needing assistance within the first week of practice to be able to continue in this group. If for some reason your child is not able to complete this task by the end of the first week you will need to enroll your child in swim lessons and sign up again next season. This is for the safety of all our swimmers. You will be refunded your money if your child cannot swim the length of the pool before competition begins.
Meet nights are Tuesday nights for 10 and under and Thursday nights for 11 and up. Swimmers generally arrive for the meets around 5PM – meets are held at home and away. This year we will only allow one adult per swim family to attend the meets. If you volunteer, that spot does not count for your one adult per meet. Unfortunately, we will not be able to allow non-Waves siblings to attend the meets this year.
Swim Championships are scheduled for Tuesday, July 20 and Thursday, July 22.
NEW THIS SEASON
Each practice group will be limited to 50 swimmers. To ensure physical distancing, swim practice will consist of a combination of pool time and dry land workouts. Masks will be worn at all times except when working out and when in the water.
We will have a Meet the Coaches night on Sunday, June 6. There will be a Zoom meeting for the parents at 5PM and the Waves will be welcomed to the pool from 6:00PM –8:00PM to meet the coaches and see their old friends and meet new ones. Only one adult per swim family may attend the Meet the Coaches night; and please no siblings.
We look forward to a great swim season this year. Go Waves!
