Kundalini Yoga and the First Chakra

Friday, Oct 30 | 12:00pm – 2:00pm | $40 Members & $50 Guests | Yoga Studio

The focus of this workshop, taught by Woodside Yoga teacher Sumya Anani, is on the first chakra, which is the foundation of the body’s energy system. It is the earth element. It represents anything that supports you in this physical realm:

1) Do you love your body and take care of it?
2 ) Does your work in the world fulfilling?
3) Is your home environment a nurturing place to be? What can you improve?
4) Do you spend time in nature?
5) How is your financial health?

Wear the color red or white and bring your journal and your intentions behind what you want to change in any of the above areas. It is our destiny to awaken the full potential of our being; body, mind, and spirit. Kundalini Yoga answers that call. The workshop will help on balancing the glandular system, strengthening the 72,000 nerves of the body, and bringing the body, mind and soul into balance.

There are six major components in a typical Kundalini Yoga class:

1) Tuning-in
2) Pranayam or warm-up
3) Kriya
4) Relaxation
5) Meditation
6) Closing with the blessing song

Every Kundalini Yoga class includes pranayam (breath work) and meditation. Pranayam practices are varied, and meditations often involve movement or mantra, an eye focus, and a mudra (hand position). The exercises in each kriya rejuvenate the body and quiet the mind. Then, deep meditation is easily achieved. Many Kundalini Yoga kriyas and meditations include mantra and chanting. Mantra is a great practice for anyone new to meditation, who find silence and/or stillness challenging. Benefits include increased clarity, balance, and equanimity.

Sign-ups are required. Email Katie Swetala at [email protected] for reservation or sign up at the front desk. Limit 25 students.
