Pilates for Pain Relief, Recovery and Everyday Life

Woodside Personal Trainer and Certified Pilates Instructor, Lisa Cherepak, has over 12 years experience teaching Pilates on the mat and with equipment, working with a wide range of clients with physical limitations and fitness needs. She shares her story on how Pilates helped her transcend her own fitness routine, and where you can begin.

“As a Pilates Instructor, I’ve had the pleasure to teach individuals from ages 13 to 81 years old on the Reformer. I love teaching Pilates because it is a form of exercise that anyone can do. The reformer focuses on improved posture, promotes weight loss, eases everyday back pain and increases range of motion.

Pilates is a great way to recover from chronic or debilitating health issues including: sciatic pain and arthritis, hip and knee replacement, and even cancer, helping to regain muscle strength after treatment. The reformer is also great for athletes, I’ve instructed football players, tennis players, golfers and dancers, helping promote flexibility, injury prevention, improving bone density and it also makes for a great cross-training workout.

My Pilates journey began as a runner dealing with back pain, I now know (through Pilates and Training education) it was due to a weak core and tight hip flexors. Through Pilates, I was able to build core strength, increase flexibility in my hip region and develop other muscle groups which helped me become a stronger marathon runner. Thanks to Pilates, which helped me run 26.2 miles injury-free, I qualified to run the Boston Marathon.”
